From Survival to Stability: A Story of Healing, Hope, and the Power of Ongoing Support

When a young mother arrived at Lumina Alliance, she was escaping violence with her daughter and had nowhere else to turn. She had spent years living in fear—doing everything she could to protect her child, with no safety net and no support system.

What she found at Lumina changed everything.

She was welcomed into safe shelter. She received legal advocacy, therapy, and, perhaps most life-changing in the moment, childcare. For the first time in years, she could stop and take a breath, knowing her daughter was safe. With that space, she began to heal. She made plans for the future. And we stood beside her every step of the way.

We accompanied her to court. We supported her through the long, difficult process of securing custody. And we were there to celebrate with her on the day she lifted her daughter into her arms and said, “We can stay together.”

Her story was featured in our last Annual Impact Report because it so clearly illustrates what’s possible when survivors have access to consistent, wraparound care.

And just this month, we got an update.

She’s now living in permanent housing. She’s working, and recently received a promotion. Her daughter, who once played in our childcare room during court hearings, is thriving. She’s doing well in school, active in sports and after-school programs, and growing up surrounded by safety, support, and possibility.

This is what healing looks like.

At Lumina Alliance, we know that one moment of support isn’t enough. Recovery from trauma and the journey to long-term safety takes time, often years. That’s why our services are designed to surround survivors and their children with care that adapts and continues: housing, therapy, advocacy, childcare, and more. When survivors are met with this kind of ongoing support, cycles of violence can be broken for good.

That’s where you come in.

When you give $25 or more each month, you become part of The Alliance, a community of monthly donors committed to showing up for survivors not just once, but all year long. Your steady support helps provide the kind of sustained, life-changing care that allows families to truly heal and thrive.

As a thank-you, you’ll receive a free Lumina Alliance tote bag when you join!
