Introducing Lumina Thrift: A New Way to Support Survivors in San Luis Obispo County

We’re excited to announce the opening of Lumina Thrift, Lumina Alliance’s brand-new social enterprise and the newest thrift store in San Luis Obispo.

Located at 545 Higuera Street in Thrift Store Alley, right next to Bank of the Sierra, Lumina Thrift is staffed by the beloved team from The Hope Chest, the longtime local favorite known for its thoughtfully curated treasures and boutique-style experience. Now, that same team is bringing their eye for quality and community to this new venture in a new location that helps support survivors in San Luis Obispo County.

“Lumina Thrift is about more than secondhand treasures—it’s about creating new opportunities for survivors to rebuild their lives,” said Jennifer Adams, CEO of Lumina Alliance. “Every item donated, every purchase made, directly supports programs that provide safety, housing, and healing for individuals and families in crisis.”

Thrift With Purpose

Lumina Thrift gives shoppers in San Luis Obispo a meaningful way to shop locally and give back. Every purchase and donation helps light the way for survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence to find safety, healing, and hope. Proceeds directly support Lumina Alliance’s no-cost services, including emergency shelter, transitional housing, therapy, and 24-hour crisis support.

“We’re so grateful to continue the legacy of The Hope Chest through Lumina Thrift,” said Jenann McClellan, Lumina Thrift Store Manager. “Our customers can expect the same boutique-quality experience and curated finds they’ve always loved—while knowing their support makes a real difference for survivors right here in our community.”

Donations are currently being accepted Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lumina Thrift. All items are thoughtfully used where they’re needed most—whether furnishing Lumina Alliance’s emergency shelter and transitional housing units or being sold in-store to fund survivor services.
