Four families transition from Lumina Alliance’s transitional housing to permanent homes
We’re proud to announce the opening of our new transitional housing site in Paso Robles—a space designed to help survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence take the next step toward safety, stability, and lasting healing.
This project is part of Lumina Alliance’s broader vision to address one of the most urgent and persistent barriers survivors face: safe, affordable housing.
A Safe Place to Land in Paso Robles
In San Luis Obispo County, 61% of female renters are rent-burdened, and 25% of single mothers are living in poverty. These realities make it incredibly difficult for survivors to leave unsafe situations—and even harder to rebuild once they do.
That’s why transitional housing is so critical. It gives survivors time, space, and support to regain their footing. And it works. Lumina Alliance operates transitional housing in San Luis Obispo, Grover Beach, and now Paso Robles, providing a total of 16 units across the county for survivors and their children. In the last five months alone, four families in our transitional housing program have successfully moved into permanent homes, thanks to our partnership with HASLO (the Housing Authority of San Luis Obispo).
This new site in Paso Robles was made possible through the generosity of Tom and Noreen Martin, who donated the property in 2020 to support emergency shelter efforts. With funding and vision from MUST! Charities, we’ve transformed the site into a supportive, trauma-informed space where survivors and their children can begin to rebuild their lives.
It couldn’t have come at a more important time.
Right now, nearly 50% of Lumina Alliance’s annual budget is at risk due to potential cuts in state and federal funding. Our Light the Way Campaign is working to bridge that gap and ensure vital services—like shelter, therapy, crisis response, and housing—remain accessible to all who need them. If these services disappear, thousands of survivors in our county could be left with nowhere to turn.
Thanks to community partners like MUST! Charities and HASLO, we’re showing what’s possible when we listen deeply to what survivors need—and respond with bold, compassionate action.
Together, we’re lighting the way forward.
