Lumina Alliance is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established in 1979. Our mission is to empower those impacted by sexual and intimate partner violence through innovative advocacy, healing, and prevention programs. Services include 24/7 crisis and information line, case management, accompaniment and advocacy, emergency shelters, transitional housing, individual and group therapy, and robust prevention education.

Hours: 40 hours/week, full-time, Non-Exempt

Location: San Luis Obispo County
Salary Range: $21.00 – $23.64 (Bilingual differential of $1/hr)

Purpose and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Transitional Housing Manager, the Transitional Housing Advocate is responsible for supporting and empowering clients by assessing needs and referring clients to appropriate community programs and services. The Advocate has the ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and confidentiality while having a strong work ethic and commitment to the organization’s mission and values. 

Key Qualifications

● Bilingual in English and Spanish is required
● High school diploma or GED; Preferred associate degree in a related field (human services, psychology, social sciences, sociology and/or education) or equivalent experience working in a related field
● Knowledge of sexual assault and intimate partner violence issues, social
systems, cultural awareness, listening skills, and basic crisis intervention
techniques is highly preferred

Development Director

Hours: 40 hours/week, full-time, Exempt

Location: San Luis Obispo County
Salary Range: $32.00 – $48.70 (Bilingual differential of $1/hr)

Purpose and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Chief Development & Communications Officer (CDCO) and in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Development Director provides strategic leadership for the organization’s fundraising and advancement efforts. This includes designing and implementing initiatives to identify, cultivate, and secure annual gifts, major gifts, planned gifts, and foundation or corporate support, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and vision. The Development Director collaborates with the CEO, CDCO, and Board of Directors to achieve fundraising goals, manage a portfolio of high-impact donor prospects, and build a cohesive and collaborative development team. This role focuses on fostering meaningful donor relationships and advancing philanthropic outcomes that sustain and grow the organization’s impact. 

Key Qualifications

● Collaborative and team-oriented, fostering strong partnerships across departments and with external stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
● Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with he ability to engage authentically with individuals, teams, and external stakeholders. 
● High level of self-awareness, including the ability to reflect on personal strengths and areas for growth, take accountability for actions, and adapt based on feedback.

Hours: Flexible/Full Time, 32-40 hours per week
Location: San Luis Obispo County
Salary Range: $21.00 – $23.64 (Bilingual differential of $1/hr if applicable)

Purpose and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Clinical Director, the Therapy Department Coordinator is responsible for general support of the therapy department, including administering the Therapy waitlist, connecting clients and therapists, and communications with clients, as well as providing administrative support and assisting walk-in clients.

Preferred Qualifications

● Fluency in English and Spanish is required
● Previous or related experience is preferred

The Interview Process

What to Expect

Most positions typically have a two-step panel interview process:

  • Initial interview, typically virtual via Zoom or Google Meets
  • Second Round Interview, usually in person at our San Luis Obispo Office
  • Some departments and positions have brief skills demonstration presentations or related portions, skills tests

Note:  Panel interviews consist of 2-4 current staff members and the applicant.

We recommend the following steps to prepare for your interview:

  • Carefully review the Job Description. Consider how your experiences align with the job, and be prepared to discuss your experience.
  • Review our website to get a basic understanding of the work we do and who we are.

  • Write down any questions that come up for you as you have gone through this process. You will have an opportunity to ask our team questions throughout the interview process.

Once an offer is made: 

  • Requesting I-9 Documents be completed
  • Scheduling for the 65-hour training to become a state-certified crisis counselor (required of all staff)
